Medical Data Integration Center
Klinikum rechts der Isar of Technical University of Munich (MRI) being a university clinic with a research assignment is part of the DIFUTURE consortium in the federal medical informatics initiative (MI-I).
Medical informatics initiative aims to make the best possible use of the opportunities offered by digitization in medicine for healthcare and research. In a first step, data integration centers are being set up and networked at university hospitals and partner institutions. In these centers, the prerequisites are created to be able to link the research and supply data that are still securely stored on site across locations.
Medical Data Integration Center is a legally dependent institution of the MRI for integration of data from care and research as well as for the improvement of processes and data quality. It also serves to make data and analysis methods available to researchers and clinicians. As part of the medical informatics initiative, the aim is to network with similar centers at all German university hospitals in order to enable data to be analyzed across locations.
Furthermore, an increase in research quality is to be achieved, not only in the form of an acceleration of the fundamental gain in knowledge ("bedside to bench"), but also through the more efficient implementation of the knowledge gained for better treatment of many diseases ("bench to bedside"). Improving the quality of documentation and data requires greater cooperation at various levels, both within the MRI and with national and international partners. Structuring and standardization will be relevant here.
In addition, the improvement of patient safety, patient care and quality management is to be supported and process control to be optimized.
Data protection and data security must be comprehensively guaranteed. This requires technical and organizational measures, such as the establishment of an independent trustee or transfer point, the establishment of a data access and use committee and, in particular, a data protection concept adapted to the specific challenges. Innovative concepts with distributed evaluations play an important role in this.
